      <image:caption>“Dancers are often celebrated for their physical prowess, when in fact, we are sustained even more by our mental strength.” Friedemann Vogel in his 2021 International Dance Day Message For Friedemann, dance is as much an intellectual pursuit as a physical one. He lectures on movement and aesthetics at the University of Tübingen, where he is an associate member of the research centre “Different Aesthetics”, exploring the role of the arts in society. There, he created the site-specific performance Écorché! — Anatomie des Tanzes for the historic Old Anatomy Hall, which was screened during the Berlin Science Week, and in the cover story of the university's research magazine Attempto!, spoke about art as an expression of honesty. That perspective has made him a public voice as much as a performer. He has served as an ambassador for International Dance Day under UNESCO patronage, fronted SWR's “Kultur darf das” campaign promoting openness and cultural dialogue, and was named by the Federal Government as a role model for career diversity. A frequent guest on Germany's cultural programmes, he speaks about the meaning of his art as fluently as he performs it.</image:caption>

Jürgen Gruler, Schwetzinger Zeitung His most personal work asks the question that has acquired new urgency in the digital age: what becomes of the human soul in the age of the machine? In Soul Threads (Die Seele am Faden), drawn from Heinrich von Kleist’s 1810 essay On the Marionette Theatre, Friedemann dances opposite a digital double of himself — the living body in dialogue with its own artificial image. More than a performance, it is an inquiry into consciousness, presence, and grace, and among the most contemporary propositions a dancer can offer: Where others debate the future of the human, Friedemann gives it form.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>“a total artist” Film director Joachim Lang on Friedemann Friedemann’s presence reaches well beyond the stage. He made his feature-film debut in Cranko, Joachim Lang’s acclaimed portrait of the choreographer John Cranko, in the role of the esteemed dancer Heinz Clauss opposite Sam Riley as the South African choreographer who put Stuttgart Ballet on the world map. The film was recognised at the German Film Awards and recently winning the Bronze Tower at the New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards. Fun fact: Friedemann actually met Heinz Clauss as a little boy while auditioning for the John Cranko School, where Clauss was principal at the time! His own life in dance has become the subject of film, in the feature documentary Incarnation of Dance (Verkörperung des Tanzes). He appears at present across three programmes on ARTE TV: in Friendship, a Superpower?, a science documentary that had its avant-première at the Silbersalz Festival 2025 ; Le Prix, which goes behind the scenes of the prestigious Prix de Lausanne, with Friedemann as a member of the jury, and The New Year Concert at La Fenice in Venise, alongside Eleonora Abbagnato. He was earlier featured in another ARTE documentary Dance On! and ZDF’s Aspekte. An artist as compelling on screen as he is on stage.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Friedemann has long drawn the worlds of fashion, design, and luxury toward dance as genuine artistic encounters. He gave the inaugural dance performance at the Fondation Louis Vuitton and has collaborated with leading houses and brands including Porsche, Dior, and Fendi. For Porsche, his award-winning film Fascinating Movement launched the “Inspired by Porsche” campaign, while Driven by Dreams saw him answer every interview question through movement alone. He has performed at special events for Fendi and Dior, appeared in creations by Maria Grazia Chiuri, and danced alongside Eleonora Abbagnato in Nuit Romaine—a film choreographed and directed by Angelin Preljocaj at Rome's Palazzo Farnese, produced by Dior for International Dance Day. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he also led a workshop on improvisation for Dior and Dance. Frequently dressed by the great maisons for red carpets, editorial features, and cultural events, Friedemann enjoys a wide presence across international publications including Vogue, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, Numéro, and ZOO Magazine. Across campaigns, films, editorials, and live performances, the principle remains constant: the body as a vehicle of meaning, expression, and imagination.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Generosity has marked Friedemann's career from the outset. After winning the Prix de Lausanne, he donated his prize money to the Princess Grace Academy, where he himself had trained on scholarship. That impulse—to support the institutions and communities that nurture others—has remained a constant throughout his life. During the Covid-19 pandemic, when theatres around the world stood empty, that spirit found new forms. Friedemann initiated Physical Conversation, a limited-edition art project featuring photographs created in unexpected spaces beyond the stage. The edition sold out rapidly, raising funds for the Olgäle Foundation and a children's hospital. The works were later exhibited in the gardens of Stuttgart's State Palace Museum, bringing dance to audiences at a time when live performance had become impossible, while select pieces were sold to generate further support for the foundation. During the same period, he contributed to Dior and Dance, leading a workshop on improvisation as part of the house's initiative to support and engage the dance community during lockdown. He has also performed in support of the John Cranko School, the Italian Red Cross, and initiatives such as Dreamers Night in Hamburg. Whether through performance, education, or artistic projects, Friedemann has consistently brings the same generosity of spirit to worthy causes as he does to his artistic work.</image:caption>
